Peptic ulcer (PU) is currently understood as a gastrointestinal disease of an infectious type, caused by the bacteria Helicobacter pylori, which was discovered in the stomach of the human being in 1982. This has emphasized the research on the biological factors, not taking into consideration psychosocial factors, which have been traditionally associated with this medical condition.
