Une stèle carthaginoise bien prolixe : une scène de magie punique

This picture has been analyzed using the methods of iconology. And all the hints collected on this occasion (hints related to the way the carving area was used, to the environment, to the appearance or the body language of the character) are reinforced by those provided by literature, epigraphy and archaeology (nearness of dead children, notably) to indicate that it represents a working necromancer.Un décor exceptionnel dans l'imagerie punique rehausse la stèle Cb 687 exhumée du tophet de Carthage : l'image d'une femme assise auprès d'un tertre et qui semble répandre le contenu d'une œnochoé. Cette image est analysée ici selon les méthodes de l'iconologie. Et tous les indices recueillis à cette occasion (indices relatifs au mode d'utilisation du champ de gravure, à l'environnement, à l'apparence ou à la gestuelle du personnage) se renforcent de ceux fournis par les textes littéraires, l'épigraphie et l'archéologie (la proximité d'enfants morts, en particulier) pour indiquer qu'elle représente une nécromancienne dans l'exercice de son art
