Cinéma, sexualité et racialisation : le cas des « tournantes »

This paper intends to analyze three movies (La Squale, La Journée de la jupe, Sheitan), which deal mainly with, or simply mention, “tournantes”. The French term “tournantes” surfaced in the early 2000s, and refers to group rapes committed in suburbian areas. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the dovetailing of sexuality and race discourses in the constitution of “tournantes” as a problem. We identify three axes of problematization: a documentary one, a moral and political one, and an oppositional one. Hence, there is evidence that group rape turns into the racialized figure of “tournantes” in both news and entertainment medias at the very same time. Moreover, “tournantes”, which generate political conflictuality, problematize race through sex without resorting only to othering and stigmatizing: they also appear to be the place of whiteness production.Cet article propose une analyse de trois films (La Squale, La Journée de la jupe, Sheitan), traitant centralement ou mentionnant plus latéralement des « tournantes », terme apparu au début des années 2000 et désignant des viols collectifs commis en banlieue. Il examine l’intrication d’un discours de sexualité et d’un discours racial dans la constitution des « tournantes » comme problème. Il identifie trois axes de problématisation : documentaire, morale et politique, oppositionnelle, établissant que le basculement du viol collectif dans la figure racialisée de la « tournante » s’opère simultanément dans les médias d’information et de divertissement. Il en ressort que les « tournantes », objets d’une conflictualité politique, problématisent le racial par le sexuel, sans recourir uniquement à l’altérisation et la stigmatisation, mais aussi en étant le lieu d’une production de la blanchité
