Strongly influenced by the work of the Kelmscott Press, Aubrey Beardsley and his publisher proposed their own illustrated version of the Arthurian myth, which became hugely popular through the mass circulation made possible by advances in printing. It reflects the Pre-Raphaelite taste for the Middle Ages, but also for the Orient (Beardsley's style owes much to Japanese printmaking). But the illustrator also developed his own version of the legend of the Round Table in which eroticism is omnipresent. From the end of the 19th century, artists would emancipate themselves from tradition to create modern reinterpretations of ancient myths. The worlds of imaginative fantasy are not far away.téléchargeabl
