The Magic Circle : Collection of Treatises on the Occult Sciences

A magic circle, supposed to allow the conjuration of demons, appears on this page of a treatise on ritual magic from the 18th century, part of a set of manuscripts published in that period under the title The Clavicles of Solomon . Attributed to King Solomon, it is a set of “keys” (clavicula) for esoteric practices. Serving to protect the bearer by constraining and confining spirits, the circle often contains within its limits a pentacle, or five-pointed star; at least that is how it appears in the most widely-known representations of witchcraft in contemporary popular culture, such as the television series Charmed (1998-2006) or Sabrina (since 2018).téléchargeabl
