Whether used for simple reading or as a medium for a finer study, children’s literature occupies a prime place within classrooms and particularly in kindergarten. To report potential positive effects of using a picture book in a science learning sequence, an experimentation was conducted with two classes of second year of kindergarten school. One of the groups -from disadvantaged backgrounds- attended a learning sequence about masses based on a book while the other group - from privileged backgrounds – attended a similar sequence but without book. Concerning the understanding of the physical phenomena involved, results do not show a significant difference between the two groups. On the other hand, we note a slightly higher performance level...
