International audienceWhile mountains have for long been considered in France as places of experimentation in natural hazards prevention, the aim of this study is to examine the operational use of the notion of adaptation and its potential ability to improve the management and also to rethink the issue of mountain hazards. Knowing that the natural hazards policy is entirely managed by the State, the article will attempt to show that adaptation operational use is currently limited. However, the analysis of two specific situations -problems of pastoral fire and campsites at risk -shows empirical practices of adaptation in risk management, sometimes resulting from normative actions of state administration, sometimes from more spontaneous forms...
