National audienceThis article tries to examine the attitude of New Labour towards devolution from1994 to 1999. More precisely, it is aimed at highlighting how New Labour influenced the creation of devolved institutions in Scotland and Wales. Indeed, the British Labour leadership quickly seized the initiative on this issue, trying to reduce inter- and intra-party tensions and to neutralize the opposition of English MPs so as not to repeat the mistakes of 1979 and to ensure the success of a third bill.
