This paper presents an analysis of epistemic modalities (Papafragou 2006; Willer, 2013) identified in the discourse of seven language teachers, as they were interviewed. These epistemic modalities are understood here as discursive elements, by means of which the teachers position themselves in relation to their actions. The analysis suggests aspects of the teachers' teaching practice in relation to which they would show a somewhat undeveloped awareness. Such epistemic modalities point out aspects of the teaching act that could be mediated, and thus lead to change.
