A collaborative approach for optimizing continuity between knowledge codification with knowledge engineering methods and knowledge transfer

International audienceKnowledge transfer is a real challenge for organizations and particularly for those who have based their strategy on experts' knowledge codification using knowledge engineering methods. This chapter discusses knowledge transfer models that consider knowledge elicitation as a possible stage for sharing and transferring knowledge. Focusing on knowledge engineering techniques for knowledge elicitation and organizational memory elaboration, the chapter analyzes codification effects on factors that affect knowledge transfer. The approach shown in the chapter allows an optimal continuity between knowledge capture using knowledge engineering methods and knowledge transfer at individual and organizational levels. The chapter discusses modes and barriers for knowledge transfer. The Hydro Quebec case study highlights the importance of defining an appropriate organization to support the knowledge transfer process
