International audienceOn the one hand, this study examines the typological issues of noun complement clauses in French. On the other hand, it addresses a series of underlying mechanisms which trigger syntactic and semantic constraints in this construction, among which the head noun selectional and modification constraints. We postulate that beyond the overall structure of the sentence and the position of the head noun, the use of a noun to govern a que-clause mostly depends on the lexical modality features of that noun. As for the modification of a head noun by an adjective, in a que-clause, it depends on the syntactic function of the head noun and on the syntagmatic construction in which it appears.Cette communication propose, d’une part, ...
