Rosetta Hirsch Family Collection 1813-1961

This collection contains a variety of correspondence, documents, poems, essays, and genealogical tables pertaining to the family of Rosetta Hirsch, especially to her grandfather Moritz Hirsch, his brothers Hermann and Adolph, and to Rosetta's father Joseph Hirsch. Notable among the materials are a handwritten volume of poetry by Ludwig Wihl and a few manuscripts by Moritz Hirsch, including a treatise against Bishop Dupanloup of Orleans.Moritz’s brother, Hermann Hirsch in London, England, was the inventor of the marine propeller 'Hirsch’s Screw' (1860); Moritz’s son, Hermann Hirsch (1861-1934) was a renowned academic painter.
