Knowledge of medical students regarding patient safety and preventing patient mismanagement

Background: Reducing harm caused by health care is a global priority. Medical students should be able to recognize systematically reported errors and improve systems through understanding of human unreliability and disclose errors to patients. This paper assesses the knowledge of the medical students that how much a medical student knows at his/her level and the potential role of a medical student in preventing patient harm/mismanagement from occurring Methods: Participants were given a questionnaire in which they asked with questions assessing their knowledge for patient safety and patient’s mismanagement. The questionnaire includes the queries regarding the cause and factors affecting the patient safety in all aspects. The data were arranged on SPSS version 17. Results: The research shows us that the issue of students of being least aware of patient safety is quite right to some extent. Some of them were not even familiar with the term ‘Patient Safety’. And majority of them did not have adequate knowledge of patient management Conclusions: The findings suggest that it is necessary to include awareness about patient safety in the curriculum of medical students and by this medical error can be reduced to great extent.
