In an accompanying letter, Rabbi Baewald pointed to two circumcision entries in Aron Lazarus’ book: Nr. 14 pertains to Baerwald’s grandfather, Elieser Lazarus (1822-1879), a Rabbi in Prenzlau and Director of the Theological Seminary in Breslau. Nr. 25 pertains to Baerwald’s uncle, Moscheh (Moritz Lazarus, 1824-1903), one of the foremost intellectuals of German Jewry, Professor of philosophy and psychology in Berlin and rector of the University in Berne.digitize
