Institutional Repositories: Contributing to Institutional Knowledge Management and the Global Research Commons

We need to view repositories as part of the knowledge processes of an institution. This includes: * improvements to the scope and granularity of the technical infrastructure to support business processes; * incentives which support the role repositories play in developing social capital; * policies that provide a culture of trust without which KM innovations founder; * tools to enhance the contribution of repositories to communities of practice. Engagement with institutional knowledge creation impacts on all aspects of the research lifecycle and the proposal explores how this approach also facilitates contribution to an open research commons.University of Southampto
