RESEARCH AIM Recently record numbers of residents have been leaving the Northern Territory for interstate, despite data suggesting a very strong economy. The relatively low rates of population growth which are resulting puts at risk our political representation in the national parliament (the House of Representatives). In this study we use long-term population data to simulate the conditions under which the Territory would lose one of its two seats, and what it would take to gain a further seat in the House of Representatives
