The chemical composition of Hyptis suaveolens was investigated and twenty three compounds were abundant enough to be identified by GC-MS. The inflorescence produced more essential oil than the leaves and stems. The isolated compounds comprised 42.1% monoterpenes, 36.8% sesquiterpenes, 15.8% alkanes, 2.6% benzothiazole, and 2.6% aromatic ketone. The sesquiterpenes β-caryophyllene (10.39%) and spathulenol (13.30%) were highest in the leaves and stems, respectively. The monoterpene 1,8-cineole (27.47%) was the major compound present in the inflorescences
