Digital imageShimon Peres was born in Belarus in 1923. He immigrated to Palestine with his family at the age of 11. He was one of the founders of Kibbutz Alumot where he worked as a farmer. Peres was involved with public service since the beginning of the State of Israel and has been a member of the Knesset since 1959. He was elected Prime Minister, sharing the position with Yitzhak Shamir from 1984 to 1986 and again from 1995 to 1996, after the death of Yitzchak Rabin.
