Postalgram sent from the front by I.S. Meyerovich, Artillery Division, 21st Cavalry Division, to his wife, Vera Ilyinichna Meyerovich in Lozov, Kharkov oblast, November 1944. Slogans on front: "For Our Soviet Motherland" and "Soviet pilots -- falcons of our motherland! Mercilessly destroy our enemies on the ground, in the air, and on the seas. Great Soviet pilots!" Handwritten message on reverse: "My dear Verochka! I am alive and well, I live as before. The situation I'm in is a relative lull, once in a while broken by a stupid skirmish. I don't have any particular news. Like all the guys, I'm expecting an abrupt turning point in the war, and it's long past time. We haven't been working for more than 3 years for nothing. I desperately want once and for all to be finished with the damned Krauts, who have caused us all this unbelievable suffering. The topic of the day for us is the question of what we'll do with the damned Krauts when we cross the German border. Each of us sees before his eyes horrible pictures of destruction, conflagration, and the bodies of old people and children that we saw in Ukraine and especially in Byelorussia. We are truly livid, and that bodes nothing good for the Germans -- revenge will be unmerciful. / Well, that's it for now. Warmest kisses. Yours.
