La mémoire des lieux : entre espaces de l'histoire et territoires de la géographie

French social sciences knew since the beginning of the years 1980 a connection with the memory whose strong markers are the choice to make year 1980 like year of the inheritance, and the publication, as from 1984, of a work-headlight of historiography: Les lieux de mémoire. This movement, to be understood must be analyzed by taking account of the evolution of the relations t between the history and the geography, quasi-Siamese disciplines of French secondary education. The analyzis of histories of France, successively published schow the recent separation of the two approaches. The geography which had a long time been an introduction to the history of France is almost completely excluded from these works to the profit of mentalities and a common culture. In same time, the reference to the History in the Geography is reduced, with the profit of a study of the time present which is often based on the space analysis. At the time of the sudden appearance of the memory in social sciences, these two university disciplines they probably arrived at the one of the moments of stronger ignorance of the other discipline. From there will be born from at the very least dissimilar uses of the memory and the places. Some historians accept an idea of place without topographic fastener. The geographers who are interested in the memory and the places make it mainly, on the one hand within the framework of the installation of the renewed concept of territory, and on the other hand in that of a renegotiation of the relation to temporalities.Les sciences sociales françaises ont connu depuis le début des années 1980 une mise en relation à la mémoire dont les marqueurs forts sont le choix de faire de l'année 1980 comme année du patrimoine, et la publication, à partir de 1984, d'un ouvrage-phare de l'historiographie : Les lieux de mémoire. Ce mouvement, pour être compris doit être analysé en tenant compte de l'évolution des relations qu'entretiennent l'histoire et la géographie, disciplines quasi-siamoises de l'enseignement secondaire français. L'examen des histoires de France successivement publiées montre la récente séparation des deux approches : la géographie qui avait longtemps introduit l'histoire de France, véritable moule de la nation française est presque intégralement exclue de ces ouvrages au profit des mentalités et d'une culture commune, nouveau creuset français. Dans le même temps, la référence à l'histoire dans la géographie se trouve réduite à la portion congrue, au profit d'une étude du temps présent qui s'appuie souvent sur l'analyse spatiale. Aussi, au moment du surgissement de la mémoire dans les sciences sociales, ces deux disciplines universitaires sont-elles probablement arrivées à l'un des moments de plus forte méconnaissance de l'autre discipline. De là vont naître des usages pour le moins dissemblables de la mémoire et des lieux. Certains historiens acceptent une idée de lieu sans attache topographique. Les géographes qui s'intéressent à la mémoire et aux lieux le font principalement, d'une part dans le cadre de la mise en place du concept renouvelé de territoire, et d'autre part dans celui d'une renégociation des rapports aux temporalités
