There is a shortage of donors worldwide resulting in high mortality rate amongst patients awaiting transplants. Hence providing a hepatic replacement device seems original. A bioartificial organ exploiting the potential performances of cells (hepatocytes in the case of a bioartificial liver) would supply the wide range of its metabolic functions.
