In many single address space operating systems, access to the distributed shared memory is often protected with password capabilities. Then, a user can manipulate these capabilities just like ordinary data. In this thesis, access control is still based on software capabilities, but the capabilities remain hidden to the user. This way, protection support can be added to an application with no need to modify the application code.
