Debris flows constitute a major natural risk in mountainous areas. Debris flows consist of a highly concentrated mixture of soil, rock, wood debris and water which flows rapidly downvalley in a series of surges with steep fronts that consist mostly of large boulders. The considerable energy involved and the great size of torrential watersheds often render inefficient any techniques of protection. Generally, the studies trying to estimate these volume of debris flow concern either the detrital production of slopes, or the sediment supply only in exit, but rarely the erosion/deposition process along the pathway and the neighbouring slopes. A scientific work has been carried out to deal with this problem on the basis of a better knowledge of d...
