The synthesis of an innovative material transmitting light from the visible to the long infrared region was realised by the alkaline halide introduction in the GeSe2-Ga2Se3 system. The possibility to obtain glass-ceramics with controllable crystal size and keeping a very good transmission in the IR is demonstrated for the first time. Reproducible crystals of 100nm size, permit the increase of the resistance to fracture propagation of glass-ceramics. The possibility to combine ceramisation and the shaping of glass-ceramics by moulding process is checked.In order to increase mechanical properties, ions diffusion experiments are realised.
