Relations entre discours, intonation et gestualité en anglais britannique

This thesis is based on the case study of videotaped dialogue between two British young women. While showing the links that exist between discourse, intonation and gestures, I first analyzed the composition of the oral paragraph which has been defined by Morel and Danon-Boileau (1998). From this morphological analysis I deduce that French and English exhibit structural and intonational differences and these in turn explain the differences found at the gestural level : spoken English exhibits a strict syntactic structure very close to that of the written language and some gestures such as discourse organisation gestures are consequently rarely used by the speakers.Otherwise the systematic study of pauses, of speech turns and of hyperparagraphs (larger units corresponding more or less to the topic) has shown that the speaking turn system and the enunciative organization are marked by identical prosodic and gestural patterns, even though there exist some intercultural differences between the two communities.Ma recherche est une étude de cas basée sur un corpus vidéo d'une conversation entre deux jeunes Anglaises. Tout en montrant les liens qui existent entre discours, intonation et gestualité, j'ai analysé dans un premier temps les constituants du paragraphe oral, tel qu'il a été défini par Morel et Danon-Boileau (1998). J'en déduis qu'il existe des différences structurelles et prosodiques entre l'anglais et le français qui expliquent les différences sur le plan de la gestualité : l'anglais oral ayant une structure syntaxique très liée, certains gestes tels que les gestes d'organisation du discours sont peu utilisés par les locutrices.En revanche, l'étude des pauses, de la gestion des tours de parole et des hyperparagraphes (unités plus larges que le paragraphe oral) fait ressortir le fait que les rapports de co-locution et de co-énonciation passent par les mêmes marques prosodiques et gestuelles en français et en anglais, malgré quelques différences interculturelles
