Attraction de polarisation et instabilité<br />modulationnelle incohérente dans les fibres<br />optiques

This thesis, entitled « Polarisation attraction and incoherent modulation instability in optical fibers », presents a theoretical and experimental study of two new processes from the nonlinear optic in optical fibers domain. We introduce in the first chapter some theoretical notions useful for the comprehension of this work. Then, we demonstrate in the second chapter that it is possible to generate some modulation instability in optical fibers using a partially coherent optical beam. We highlight and observe the main properties of the phenomenon. We study the polarisation attraction in isotropic fibers process in the third chapter. Our work proves the existence of the phenomenon, and permits to define its main characteristics. We complete our study by a look to the potential telecom applications of the attractor.Cette thèse, intitulée « Attraction de polarisation et instabilité modulationnelle incohérente dans les fibres optiques », présente l'étude théorique et expérimentale de deux processus novateurs dans le domaine de l'optique non linéaire dans les fibres optiques. Après avoir introduit quelques rappels théoriques utiles dans le premier chapitre, le second chapitre présente une étude sur l'Instabilité Modulationnelle incohérente dans les fibres optiques. Cette étude démontre la possibilité de générer de l'Instabilité Modulationnelle dans une fibre optique à l'aide d'une onde optique partiellement incohérente, et met en avant ses caractéristiques principales. Le troisième chapitre traite du phénomène d'attraction de polarisation dans les fibres optiques isotropes. Nous y démontrons son existence, ainsi que ses principales caractéristiques, et étudions l'usage qui pourrait en être fait pour des applications télécoms
