The turbocharged diesel engines with direct injection benefited from numerous progresses in terms of minimization of consumption and emissions. Today, they represent more and more complex technological processes. Therefore, fault detection and diagnosis need to be developed and improved for these engines. This thesis proposes a method of model based diagnosis for the detection of various types of faults like: sensor, actuator faults and leaks in a diesel engine gases path by using only serial production sensors. The use of physical, polynomial, static and dynamic models allows calculating residuals between the sensor signals and their estimates computed by these models.
