Soft soil improvement by vertical rigid piles is a technique which associates a pile grid and a granular earth platform, intercalated between the improved soil and the surface structure. Arching occurs in the granular fill, which permits partial load transfer onto the piles, thesurface settlement reduction and homogenization, in order to insure the structure good working and durability. The reinforcement can be completed by a geosynthetic, laid at the platform base, working in membrane effect. The main application areas are road- and railway embankment foundations and industrial area foundations. The various elements composing the system are in strong and complex interaction.This PhD thesis work is a contribution to the understanding of the behaviour of this type of structure, and focuses more precisely on the modelling of the mechanisms developing in the earth platform. It consists of three parts.The first part presents the context and the objectives.The second part is dedicated to the constitution of an experimental database, precise and complete in term of both loads and displacements, in order to serve as a reference for various numerical modelling approaches. A physical two-dimensional modelling using analogical materials is developed.The third part concerns the numerical modelling. It first consists in a two-dimensional modelling in a continuum, validated by confrontation to the experimental results. Specific constitutive models for the various materials are implemented. The parametric study can then be numerically extended. The next step of the numerical modelling consists in simulating realistic threedimensional cases in a continuum. The soft soil and the granular earth platform soil behaviours are taken into account by various constitutive models, showing increasing degrees of complexity. A pile grid unit cell is first represented, and the system is then represented by a current embankment section with lateral slopes.Le renforcement des sols compressibles par inclusions rigides verticales est une technique qui associe un éseau d'inclusions et un matelas constitué de sol granulaire, intercalé entre le sol renforcé et l'ouvrage. Dans ce matelas se développent des voûtes qui transfèrent partiellement les charges vers les inclusions, permettant ainsi la réduction et l'homogénéisation des tassements en surface du massif renforcé. Le renforcement peut être complété par une nappe géosynthétique en base du matelas, fonctionnant en membrane. Les domaines d'application privilégiés sont les fondations de remblais routiers ou ferroviaires et les fondations de zones industrielles. Les différents éléments de ce système sont en interactions complexes.Ce travail de thèse constitue une contribution à la compréhension du comportement de ce type d'ouvrage, et s'intéresse plus particulièrement à la modélisation des mécanismes se développant dans le matelas de transfert de charge. Il comporte trois parties. La première partie présente le contexte et les objectifs. La deuxième partie est consacrée à la constitution d'une base de donnéesexpérimentale précise et complète en terme d'efforts et de déplacements, afin de servir de référence à diverses approches de modélisation numérique. Pour cela, un modèle physique bidimensionnel mettant en oeuvre des matériaux analogiques est développé.La troisième partie concerne la modélisation numérique. La première étape consiste en une modélisation bidimensionnelle en milieu continu, validée à partir des résultats expérimentaux obtenus sur le modèle réduit. Des modèles de comportement spécifiques aux divers matériaux sont mis en oeuvre. L'analyse paramétrique peut alors être étendue numériquement. La seconde étape de la modélisation numérique consiste en la mise en oeuvre de simulations tridimensionnelles en milieu continu de cas réalistes. Les comportements du sol du matelas et du sol compressible sont pris en compte par des modèles de diverses complexités. Le système est d'abord pris en compte par une cellule élémentaire du maillage en conditions drainées, puis par une section courante de remblai présentant des talus latéraux
