The objective of this thesis was to determine the effect of roughness on the flow and the heat transfers in microchannels. We carried out three-dimensional numerical simulations in order to characterize the interactions between the single-phase liquid flow and the rough elements. These calculations revealed that the flow in the rough near wall region can be modelled as two-dimensional. Consequently, 2D numerical simulations were employed in order to determine the drag and heat transfer coefficients. These results were used in a one-dimensional model RLM (Rough Layer Model) based on the discrete elements method.
