The introduction of Turbo-codes in the early 90's and, more generally the iterative principle, has deeply modified the methods for the design of communication systems. This breakthrough has also resurrected the Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) codes invented by R. Gallager in 1963. Advanced channel coding techniques such as Turbo-codes and LDPC, are now increasingly considered for introduction into communication systems and standards. This evolution towards industrialization motivates the definition of new flexible and efficient decoding architecture for LDPC codes.
