This habilitation manuscript deals with the optical characterization of multiphase flows. It gathers three types of contributions. The first part concerns the modelling of the light scattering properties of various particles encountered in flows: homogeneous droplets, bubbles and fibres; spherical and cylindrical particles with internal refractive index gradients or coated; ellipsoidal, heterogeneous and irregular particles. These theoretical and numerical works are established in the framework of the Lorenz-Mie theory or with physical or geometrical approximations.
