Echinococcus multilocularis is a parasite involving carnivores, as mainly the fox, and rodents, as the micromammals in its life cycle. The human contamination by the parasite causes the Alveolar Echinococcosis, a lethal disease when untreated. The cestode is only found in the Northern Hemisphere (China, Japan, Europe and North America). Its spatial distribution seems to know a recent evolvement, notably in Europe, where the Alpine Arch is described as the main E. multilocularis historical focus.
