Bioartificial liver devices must allow patients to wait either for the organ to regenerate itself once toxins are eliminated or for a hepatic graft. These extracorporeal systems are based on the use of cells cultured in an adequate environment.The objective of the thesis is to characterize different geometries of bioartificial liver by comparing the metabolic activities of a same cell culture (C3A) for each of them:1) classical fluidized bed (reference case) with alginate beads of 1000 µm diameter2) new type of fluidization with lower bead diameter (600 µm)3) systems with hollow fiber membranes commonly used by other teams4) Air Lift reactor in which with air permits the fluid circulationIn each system, flow and mass transfers of nutrients ...
