Spectral methods are well known for their specific rapid convergence and accuracy features. However, their application to naval hydrodynamics remains rather limited up to now. The aim of this PhD is to investigate the possibilities offered by their application to the gravity wave generation and propagation process, in the frame of potential theory.A review of the various spectral approaches used in the field of naval hydrodynamics is first drawn up, backing up the choice of techniques developed during this work.
