We analyse the use of the Interior Penalty Discontinuous Galerkin method (IPDGM) when applied to land migration by wave equation. The key step to obtain subsurface images is the resolution of the direct problem and we propose to solve it using a finite element method (FEM) based on tetrahedra. This method is particularly well adapted to the terrestrial migration since we have to take into account the strongly bumped topography of the site. The analysis of the performance of the chosen FEM allows to conclude that it outperforms the finite difference methods that are traditionally used for the Reverse Time Migration (RTM).
