Used for a long time in life sciences, signal processing appeared only recently in the network community. It comes as a surprise that two complex systems, the heart and a computer network, as remote as they can be, share similar scale-invariant laws. Without claiming that they are the fingerprints of comparable structures, these scaling properties call for the same analysis, estimation, or modeling tools, whose design is at the core of the present work. It is also this methodological unity that allowed to decompartmentalize the various application domains that were investigated.
