Rare earth doped solid state lasers have several advantages: they are compact, they have a high efficiency and their beam quality is good. The main problem to reach high power is the heat production occurring during laser process. The first part of this thesis reports the study of new high pumping power resistance materials: Yb:GdVO4 and Yb:CaGdAlO4 for instance. In the latter laser host, quasi athermal laser emissions and ultra-short pulses have been obtained. In a second part of the thesis, a new sol-gel bonding technique was studied to realize composite sources with efficient heat dissipation.
