This work explores the design of collaborative applications for ubiquitous environments. Collaborative applications support the cooperation of groups of users that want to achieve a common goal. Until now, collaborative applications have been designed for "desktop" systems. This work proposes the use collaborative applications in ubiquitous computing environments, which offer new characteristics such as context awareness and adaptation. Firstly, a semantic model of collaboration, called GCO (Generic Collaboration Ontology), is proposed. This model allows expressing collaboration needs independently of the application domain.
