We have built an experimental model system of specific adhesion between two fluid surfaces on which diffuse ligand and receptor proteins. We have experimentally established the link between macroscopic energy of adhesion end the microscopic motor, the creation of specific links. In order to measure the macroscopic energy of adhesion, we have used emulsion droplets. While adhering, the droplets are deformed. Knowing their surface tension, the increase of surface gives access to the adhesion energy. As a microscopic motor, we have used the model couple streptavidin/biotin.
