This thesis addresses ontology-driven prognosis assistance using knowledge representation and reasoning for very large microscopi medical images. One particular medical application in which prognosis assistance is needed is the breast cancer grading. Although this is considered the key assessment tool in prognosis of modern pathology practice, the main problems of the manual procedure are : time constraints, the need of knowledge and attention. Moreover the lack of formal standardized semantic representation for the indexing and classification of the terminology and the lack of an inference mechanism to assist the grading are key issues of the domain.
