During the Miocene, the Rhone-Provence Molassic Basin is situated at mid paleolatitude. This alpine foreland basin records an outstanding bioclastic sedimentary system, infilling incised valleys. The study of the Vénasque (Aquitanian-Langhien) and the Martigues (Aquitanian-Tortonian) outcrops constitute the core of this PhD. The objective is to study the bioclastic sedimentary system (petrography, sedimentary architecture, depositional setting and diagenesis) and determine its reservoir potential. After the formation of fluvial valleys during eustatic falls, the sediments are deposited in a strictly submarine tidal-dominated setting.
