The work undertaken for this thesis focused on the biomechanical analysis and simulation of the hand-rim wheelchair propulsion. The ulterior objective was to prevent upper limb musculoskeletal disorders. Thus, indexes were identified that permitted an objective quantification of the risk of developing an upper limb pathology related to the wheelchair propulsion movement. In the first chapter, the hand-rim wheelchair is presented along with the general anatomy and common propulsion-related disorders of the upper limb. The second chapter presents detailed information on the biomechanical parameters of the propulsion movement.
