Les territoires urbains de l'échange : l'agglomération toulousaine à travers les âges

The thesis retraces the evolution of tolosan urban territories. The exchanges, complex maelstrom, are one of the most powerful ferments of urbanization's process. Each historical world presents specific logics because of mentalities and sensibilities, urban sociability, international context, technological progresses, etc. In this evolution, several turning points deeply modify the structure of exchanges, but one of them constitutes a more important rupture: the modernity. That's why the thesis is separated in two parts, the first one is describing the formation of the city and his history until the nineteenth century, and the second one is exposing the entrance into modernity and the urban development since the eighteenth century. The goal of the thesis is to underline this rupture and to measure its consequences. With the urban sprawl, the archipelagos of contemporaneous exchange generate new territories, of course from an economical point of view and also from the point of view of imagination. After that it has been the provincial capital of an agricultural region, the tolosan urban settlement of today is a good example illustrating this territorial mutation that produces new polarisations.La thèse retrace l'évolution des territoires urbains toulousains. Les échanges, maelstrom complexe, sont un des ferments les plus puissants du processus d'urbanisation. Chaque monde historique présente des logiques spécifiques d'échanges en fonction des mentalités et des sensibilités, des sociabilités urbaines, du contexte international, des progrès technologiques, etc. Dans cette évolution, plusieurs tournants modifient profondément la structure des échanges, mais l'un d'entre eux constitue une rupture plus importante : la modernité. C'est pourquoi la thèse est séparée en deux parties, la première décrivant la formation de la ville et son histoire jusqu'au XIXe siècle, la seconde exposant l'entrée en modernité et le développement urbain depuis le XVIIIe siècle. Le but de la thèse est de souligner cette rupture et d'en mesurer les conséquences. Avec l'étalement urbain, les archipels de l'échange génèrent de nouveaux territoires, bien sûr du point de vue économique et aussi de celui de l'imagination. Après avoir été la capitale provinciale d'une région agricole, l'établissement urbain toulousain d'aujourd'hui est un bon exemple illustrant cette mutation territoriale qui produit de nouvelles polarisations
