In this thesis we show how photonic crystal cavities can exploited for sensing application, provided that they are filled with a sensitive absorbent layer. A Lorentz dispersion model implemented in a 2D-FDTD code show that the absorption of the layer can be exploited for enhancing the sensitivity of the sensor. We found that a variation of the refractive index of 10¯⁷ leads to a variation of the transmittivity of 23 % at the resonance peak. Also, we will report the first study and realization of two types of lithium niobate photonic cavities (LiNbOз PhCs). The choice of the LiNbOз substrate is motivated by its capability of combining piezoelectric, electro-optical, acousto-optical, non-linear optical properties, which offers the perspective...
