First, an inflexible, uncompromising commitment that the writer raises as a sign identifying his novelistic aesthetics and his action as a public figure. Second, a channel permitting frequently productive exchanges between “secondary prose” (journalistic and political writing, essays, political pamphlets) and fictional production.
