FeS clusters are widely used protein cofactors, found both in bacteria and eukaryotes. They play key roles such as electron transfer, substrate binding and activation, regulation of gene expression, sulfur donor etc. They are really various, ranging from the [2Fe-2S] cluster to the more complex MoFe7S9X (X = C, N or O) agregate of nitrogenase. Clusters assembly is carried out by protein machineries. We studied the ISC (Iron-Sulfur Cluster) in bacteria, who assembles [2Fe-2S] and [4Fe-4S] clusters.
