Rare gas clusters are an intermediate state of matter between the bulk material and molecules. Studies of their interaction with short and intense laser pulses have demonstrated the ability to yield energetic (multi-keV) X-rays, fast ions, electrons and even neutrons, owing to high laser energy absorption rates. Among these emission processes, we have specifically studied the intensity, the spectrum and the duration of X-rays, as a first step for cluster-based X-ray source applications.
