VOLDORAD, a low power UHF Doppler radar, is a portable ground-based system, developed by the Observatoire de Physique du Globe de Clermont-Ferrand (France), especially for the study of explosive volcanic activity. The capabilities of such remote sensing methods to probe safely hazardous eruption jets and plumes constitute a real step forward regarding the in-depth analysis of physical processes controlling the dynamics of volcanic eruptions.
