The first part of this manuscript is dedicated to glycosidase inhibition. Because enzyme-catalyzed carbohydrate hydrolysis is a biologically widespread process, glycosidase inhibitors have many potential applications as therapeutic agents. Glycosidase inhibitors are extremely useful probes to understand vital functions of glycosidases in living systems.
