This dissertation is devoted to the development of new methods of mathematical modeling in biology and medicine, off-lattice discrete-continuous hybrid models, and their applications to modelling of hematopoiesis and blood disorders, such as leukemia and anemia. In this approach, biological cells are considered as discrete objects while intracellular and extracellular networks are described with continuous models, ordinary or partial differential equations. Cells interact mechanically and biochemically between each other and with the surrounding medium. They can divide, die by apoptosis or differentiate.
